The award for the best ethical business went to organic home delivery service, Abel & Cole, and the driving force behind it, Ella Heeks.

“It's always been my aim to prove that food can be sold in a way that’s good for everyone. This accolade is heart-warming confirmation of our success,” said Ella Heeks.

As part of Ella’s prize, Abel & Cole will receive a business development package from Triodos Bank worth £2,500.

Polly Gowers of charity search engine Everyclick.com, won the newly created Ethical Entrepreneur Award for businesses running for less than three years.

“This caps an amazing two years,” said Polly Gowers. “Winning this WEBA will help highlight that making a small change to your daily routine can make massive difference to the cause you care about.”

This award would be a fitting celebration of how Divine has succeeded as a pioneering farmer-owned Fairtrade chocolate company which is both achieving its social and business targets, and has proved that there is an alternative model to conventional international trade. It would also acknowledge the contribution of all the wonderful women who have made Divine the irresistible brand it is today, the women who have worked for Divine, the women who have bought Divine, and last but certainly not least the women who have grown the cocoa and run the exemplary farmers’ co-operative in Ghana.

TRAID stands for Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development.  We are a registered charity committed to protecting the environment and reducing world poverty by recycling and campaigning at home.  Having worn second hand clothing all of my life, I would like to win Triodos Bank’s Women in Ethical Business Award in order to raise awareness of the environmental and social consequences of the fashion industry as well as to encourage the public to reuse their old clothing and shoes by donating them to TRAID.

Bespoke Experience was established to sustainably relieve poverty and protect fragile environments in areas of extreme poverty using tourism as the vehicle. Bespoke opened Guludo Beach Lodge in 2005, an award winning "eco lodge" in Northern Mozambique, which maximises all possible benefits to the area. We employ local staff and exclusively used local materials to build the lodge.  5% of revenues are given to our UK registered charity, SERF (Social & Environmental Regeneration Fund).

Winning this award would enable us to raise our profile to inspire others to use the median of business to achieve social objectives. The prize money will go directly to SERF (100% of donations go to projects on the ground). It will feed 65 malnourished children one meal a day, 7 days a week for 1 year

Brown Cow Organics produces top quality organic beef and yoghurt through sustainable farming practices focusing particularly on nutritionally balanced, healthy soils and has won national acclaim. Focusing on the ethos of local food for local people, our outstanding Guernsey yoghurt is made to order and packaged in British made glass jars, whilst our award winning meat is butchered and packaged in greaseproof paper, on the day of delivery to ensure the freshest product possible.

Winning this award would be an accolade to the hard work and dedication of a business committed to producing and delivering top quality, locally produced food for customers who demand the very best.
